The new MacBook (Pro) 2.0

While playing around on my brother’s new MacBook, I noticed some new things in the System Preferences as well as the toolbar.

First, there’s the new lightbulb logo for the Energy Saver pane. They’ve switched to a CFL bulb to further announce their strenuous efforts for “greener” computers.

However, I find it odd that they used this kind of bulb to represent their new efforts. Don’t get me wrong, CLFs are much better; but they do contain mercury which is something they’ve finally succeeded to remove from their displays. I guess an LED bulb just doesn’t have the hype or “noodleness” yet for them to turn that into an icon.

Next, Take a look at the battery drop-down in the toolbar. It’s been simplified. We tried changing it to a custom setting (which we did), but as you can see that still didn’t give you the options that older models had.

Apparently, there’s been a slight OS tweak to the new systems, like a custom install or something. One is running build 9F2114 rather than 9F33. Both are still 10.5.5, it’s just that one is tricked with the new features.
