Why I’m Excited about Obama

First off, I wanna be clear about something. I did not vote for Obama; the truth, however, is that I was secretly more excited about him than I was with McSame. Okay, now that I have that out of the way…

The election is finally over, I can now concentrate on a transition of which I’m very thrilled about: from Bush to Obama. Finally, I can say goodbye to the Bush regime; and thank goodness! I can proudly say that the very thought of doing that makes me feel so much better. I welcome Obama, and his supposed changes. Although there’s several ideas Obama has that I can’t, in good conscience, agree with (spreading wealth to people who don’t work for it etc…), I’m still anxious about some of the other changes that will come with Obama’s Presidency. Here are a few reasons why I’m excited about it.

1. I’m excited at the idea of our illegal war coming to an end. We’re simply spending too much money policing the entire world. For example, did you know that the American Empire (because empire is a great term here) has over 760 military bases across the globe? That’s just too much. Period. Just think of how all that money could be used over here instead of wasting it over there on a no-win war!

2. I’m excited about the idea of restoring Habeas Corpus. We need to legalize the Constitution again! Bush killed it when things like The Patriot Act and The Military Commissions Act were built. Obama wants to restore it as well as close Guantanamo. Watch this. While I’m at it, I want to say something about torture (i.e. water boarding) : it’s wrong as well as inhumane. Obama will get my support because he agrees with me on this issue.

3. On a lighter note, I’m very excited about the idea that this Presidency will almost certainly be the most technologically minded one. For example, Obama is clearly a man who has some “green” ideas. Now while I don’t believe the science for global warming is really there, I do believe that we should make some steps leaps toward cleaner energy such as solar, wind, and geothermal. Not only that, but Obama has a Top 5 Technology Promises list that you can view here. I’m excited about those. Also, Obama’s team was caught red-handed on Election night sporting Apple gear. Can we say “EPIC WIN!”

just a friendly conversation….but where do you think Obama will get all this extra money he is talking about funding new ideas with (raising taxes) where do you think the “spreading of the wealth will come from (raising taxes). it is economically retarded to raise taxes in a Recession. lets tax the rich business owner and raise minimum wage, so now he has to cut employees because he isnt making the money that he once made. MOST not all, of Obamas changes look like a person who has no experience or grasp on reality is coming up with them. i.e. someone who hasnt worked for much of anything in his whole life, someone who has no leadership qualifications.
as for the bases all over the world…dont you think we would probably have been attacked a little before 9/11 or in some other wolrd had we not started establishing embassies (sp) and bases all over the world after WWII.
mccain is definatley not my favorite and i will respect the president elect as the bible says to but i also hope that in the next 2 years until the midterm elections that obama falls on his face and people realize that socialism is definatley not the answer to our problems.

on to another question……did you go look at that nightster the other week?

    Great points, Drew.

From what I can tell, Obama will be getting some money from American workers who make over about $250,000 a year. I interpret this as a penalty for people who work hard to have the success that they want. I just don’t think that’s the right thing to do. To be honest with you, I hope this doesn’t happen. I hope businesses don’t have to go under from a combination of penalizing taxes as well as the strain of having to increase wages due to the recession and other things.

I think you also have a good point about Obama’s qualifications. It’s no secret; he just doesn’t have a very long list of experience. However I do hope he does a good job as our President. If he falls on his face, it might mean worse things for us. For this reason alone I’ll be trying to think optimistically about all of this. I sincerely hope he doesn’t completely fail us.

About the number of military bases; I will admit that this is a tricky one for a lot of people. Correct me if I’m wrong, but Embassies aren’t necessarily tied directly to military bases, right?
I think of Embassies as something that would be closer to “safe zones” for just about any given Nationality. Full fledged bases are a totally different thing. For instance, if China (or anybody for that matter) came over and just wanted to plant their first base over here I think we’d all freak. If they then tried to sell the idea to us by proclaiming “Oh, it’s just for our protection.” I don’t think we’d want to hear anymore. We just wouldn’t have it. It wouldn’t be allowed.

We do the very same thing all over the world to just about everyone we can, and it costs us way too much money. This money could help us with out economy. Is it at least a little backwards for us to be worried about our own economy when we, at the very same time, support the idea of policing the rest of the world at the same time? I’m reminded of the old adage that says “You can’t have your cake and eat it, too.”

The other day on facebook, Jamison made a very good point about other people form socialists countries risking their lives to show up in ours. I thought that was amazing. I believe socialism should stay out and that capitalism is the right thing. However, out current President Elect seems to want to change some things about all of this. I just hope he does a good job at changing a few things as well as keeping capitalism around. Who knows, maybe he’ll mature (politically) as he goes and change some of his own ideas. That would be nice.

As for the Nightster; no, I haven’t sat on one yet. It’ll be soon though and I’ll be sure to let you know about it. By the way, how tall are you? I’m 6′. If we’re about the same height, then a Nightster for me wouldn’t really be much different that your Custom for you, right?
