What I Need

Lately, I’ve been horsing around. In fact, I think I might be getting myself into trouble. What I mean is that if I keep this sort of thing up, it’ll be too much of a habit and that’s not gonna be a good thing for anybody. To help myself out, I’ve decided to post my grand to-do list on the net. That way people can hold me feet to the fire as I try to squirm my way out of getting some things done. This is the only thing I see helping because actual paper to-do lists just don’t work for me.

- I need to learn HTML and CSS already. If I’m going to be a freelance videographer/designer one day, then I’d better get started on the craft of web design. There’s so many reasons why I should do this.
- I need to blog more. It’s been over a month since my last post. Truth be told I have a full-time day job. The last thing I want to do when I get home is write short post that don’t mean anything (like this one), or great posts about the wonders of design that would take forever and a day. Maybe when I have more time on my hands I can manage to do this.
- I need to use my video camera more. You’d think me wanting to make money off of my camera would have me shooting footage every chance I got. Here’s the catch; I already have a job. When I get home I want to chill. This doesn’t help.
- I need to manage my clutter. I’ve finally began to understand how to keep my car in order. If I can just transfer this new knowledge over to my workspace, then that would be convenient. I’m a Mac user. We can’t go around acting all elitist and everything with sloppy desks you know…
- Lately, I’ve been using a phrase from MTV’s Rob and Big which says “Do work.” This is quite an amazing motto if you really think about it. I’m getting better and I suggest you do the same.

Now that that’s out of the way, I’m gonna go do some work.

A to do list is good. I use one daily. Careful though, if your list is to big, it can be paralyzing. Break things down into smaller tasks to accomplish. Your first to do for example, Learn HTML, and CSS already, the craft of web design. All sounds good, however I didnt notice any action item there. Try to ask yourself, “What does my next ACTION need to be?” Your listed to do’s are great, however you could then list under each one, the action items that need to be done to accomplish the task. For example,

    To Do-
    Organize my clutter

    Action items-
    1-Clean my sock drawer out
    2-Wash dirty underwear
3-Buy a plastic tub to put whatever in.

get the point anyway, huh.If you come accross something you havent used in 6 months or a year, you might be able to get by without it. So throw it away or sell it. I have found a process that works for me, Identify a piece of clutter, make a decision and act.

Sometimes there is a packrat in the family that hinders the clutter management process, as is in my case. Thats a totally different situation that needs to be dealt with.
